Just curious as to how the rest of our members chill out after that big meal. Personally, especially when we have company, I like to sit with a nice cigar and a single malt scotch on the rocks.

Nothing beats kicking back with my friends, sitting around the fire with a cigar and discussing everything from dinner to baseball...(we smartly attempt to avoid politics and religion), although one might say that food is a religion to all of us.

My current favorite smokes are: The Five Vegas "A" series, Rocky Patel fusion double maduro, and anything by Graycliff. This is normally accompanied by three fingers of single malt over the rocks. Probably an Islay malt. Ardbeg is my favorite, but can be cost prohibitive..I also love Lagavullin and Bowmore, and a few good blends, such as Johnny Walker Black or Chevas.

What do you folks do to finish off that great meal?
Go ahead...play with your food!

hey, dave - good topic!

around here, with kids running around etc., a nice, quiet evening after supper usually consists of helping with homework, some reading or the usually mind-melting assortment of shows on TV. occasionally, i like to go for a drive in the countryisde or visit a friend.

and sometimes, i'll see what's going on on the FOTW!

Love single malt scotch but only in the winter sitting in front of the woodstove. My favourite is Aberlour, but there are so many other good ones. Not a cigar smoker, so I skip that. After supper I prefer a nice glass of port...dessert and wine all in one as far as I'm concerned.

My wife and I like to put in an old classic movie on the CD and watch that...currently involved in a Hitchcock box set.

Mrs Hoser loves a good port as well....and I like to have it on hand for sauces. Is your favorite a highland or lowland malt John? Not familiar with that brand. You would have gone crazy if you'd been with us in 2001...went to the UK for a while to visit my brother, and went to the scotch museum in Edinburgh....wow! Good thing we were taking the train back to Brentwood is all I can say Wink

Hi Dave...Aberlour is a highland malt, and is a perfect example of classic single malt (to me anyway) because of the pure waters from the springs they use. I mean classic in the sense that it doesn't have a strong local influence such as the salt-air tang that "Isle Of Jura" has. I got a bottle of that once and it was great, and you could really taste the salt air, strong hint of the sea in it. They say it comes from the coastal peat they use in making it on that island. Here's a link to the Aberlour site.....real nicely done and full of information.

I'd really like to take a walking tour of the single malt scotch making region!
