I'm honestly getting sick of this channel. All that is there is a crap load of reality shows. Honestly, I miss the old cooking shows, where I could actually learn something.

Not hardly, Darko. I don't know anyone who watches it anymore, for the very reason you gave. That and the "let's create a star out of somebody nobody ever heard of" philosophy that seems to permeate the network.

I could not agree more...the first so-called network star was that no talent piece of crap Guy Fieri, and it has gone downhill from there.

I'd rather watch reruns of Julia Child, Jacques Pepin and Graham Kerr...at least they are teaching technique.
Go ahead...play with your food!

Add in Rick Bayless, Jose Andres, The Mind of a Chef and a whole slew of other shows 'd rather watch.  All the ones mentioned by you and I are broadcast on your local PBS channel.

I ditched Cable/Sat a good number of years ago.  All of the equipment I had to buy for over the air reception was paid for in six to seven months of cable savings.  The savings that we've had over the years has been a bit staggering.  When we moved to our new house we ran into some issues getting reception from so much further away.  I did everything I can to get my 4 tuner HD DVR OTA system back up and running, no way I wanted to go back to cable/sat and start paying those prices for their service again.  Luckily, we back with antenna reception...couldn't be happier!
Enjoy The Food!

I don't even mean those competitions, Dave, though they're bad enough.

It's when they create something like, "So and So's Kitchen," as though So and So was somebody important in the culinary world.

That whole thing started with Sonny Anderson. You remember how that show was promoted? "She's a real DJ. She's a real Air Force vet. She's a real food lover."

Oh, yeah. Real good reasons to be given your own cooking show.

When they spun off the Cooking Network I thought we'd again have a place where real cooking shows lived. And initially the network consisted of reruns of real shows, many of them from the Canadian version of FN. But now the two channels are indistinguishable.

Meanwhile, and ironically, numerous other networks have learned the appeal of cooking shows, and have been picking up the ball that FN dropped.

100% in agreement, Darko - It seems a few years ago the Food Network made two decisions: A) to go "upscale and 'cheffy,'" and B to invest heavily in reality/contest shows.

Both moves, in my opinion, were bad ideas. Disapprove

here here! Though I still have the food network on at night, mostly just for background noise, there's only two things I watch with any regularity. Reruns of Good Eats, and chopped. Though not a fan of most reality/contest type shows I do like chopped, just to see all the crazy ideas that come from having to make something of the basket ingredients in a short amount of time.  Other than that, both channels are crap.

I know I'm in the minority, but I have no use for Alton Brown. He thinks he's a wit; I think he's half right. More to the point, he contradicts himself more times than not; takes credit for other peoples work; promotes products based on their commercial value to him and the station, and, in general, makes a mockery out of food science.

Be that as it may, for those of you who do like him, they've moved Good Eats reruns to the sister network, Cooking Channel.

Emeril Lagasse made that network and then they crapped on him and fired him.  That's when I stopped watching.  It's all BS reality programming now and I agree completely with Dave on that idiot Guy Fieri.
