I have loved fruitcake since I was a kid. Have never understood why people make fun of them. I have always told friends and family that if they get a fruitcake for Christmas and don't like them I'll eat it for them.
I shall contact KidLit.
Thanks,
Andy

Dave, You are not alone, I know lots of people who hate fruitcake. I'm am sort of odd in that it's about the only cake I like along with cheesecake and coffee cake, can't stand birthday cakes and the like with the gobs of sickening sweet icing. My grandmother was German and she used to give it to me when I was a little kid and I have loved it ever since, I'll even eat the bad fruitcakes if that's all I can get. I also got my taste for limburger cheese, ringwurst, spaetzle, and noodles from her. |

Yup, you sure can. Can't get it around here though. Luckily my neighbors are from Appleton, Wisconsin and their son-in-law (whom I hunt with) is also from there. He works for Delta Airlines and can fly for free so he goes home quite often. He always makes a cheese run for his in-laws and me so I have a regular supply of not only limburger, but brick, fresh cheddar, smoked cheddar, colby, and even marvelous 7 yr and 9 yr old cheddars that are beyond description they are so good and so intense. In return I keep him supplied with excellent local ringwurst that I bring back from Indiana whenever we go home. My wife just brought back 10 lbs of it when she returned from her trip home with the kids a couple of weeks ago.

Fannie Farmer's Dark Fruitcake
Directions:
Read more: http://www.food.com/recipe/the-fanny-farmer-dark-fruitcake-341149#ixzz1s8EOe0T0 This is the recipe my mother and her sister's used for years. It is delicious! We alwayd did the alcohol treatment using Brandy. Right before Christmas we'd decorate them with glaceé cherries and whole candied pineapple rings, and wrap them tightly in film wrap to use as gifts. One year one was put in a pressure cooker stored in the basement and lost. We found it about 20 years later! Although dry, it was still edible! If you ever want to buy fruitcake online, www.collinstreet.com makes WONDERFUL fruitcakes!

Good Evening, Boilmaker, Funny; Asking if we have a recipe for a great fruitcake is like asking for Italian restaurants in Italy ... There are good fruit cakes, there are great fruit cakes, traditional, Italian, French, German, Austrian, Swiss, Ukranian --- let us get specific ...
I have a Northeastern Trentino Alto Adige ( Austrian border ) Italian Zelten which is made with: walnuts, pine nuts, brandy or grappa, figs, orange zest, butter, sugar, flour, milk and raisins. It is a traditional ITALIAN recipe ... It is lovely and not excessively sugary sweet ... It has alot of flavor ... Lovely for breakfast too.
If you are interested, I shall post it on Wednesday ...
The Fanny Farmer is an exemplary fruit cake ... However, The Mediterranean varieties, consist of another taste profile, and are more of a coffee breakfast cake bread with fruits and nuts, then a dessert dessert.
Kindest,
Margaux.

@ African Meat,
Firstly, EL PANETTONE is one of the oldest Milanese, Lombardian desserts ... It dates back to 1452, and is prepared in dome shape, this dome shaped Christmas cake with dried fruits and nuts for the Duke Milàn Ludovico. It is quite a classic and world renowned.
My paternal grandmom Margherite was born in Milan and thus, it is customary to have Panettone for dessert on the 24th and 25th and 1st.
Yes, I do have her recipe, however, I have to translate it to English.
WOW, French Toast with Panettone ... fabulous idea !! I usually use Raisin Bread for French Toast.
Thanks for the wonderful idea ...
Shall do however, it shall take a few days.
Kindest regards and nice to see you online again.
Margi Cintrano.
