My friend from Romania came for a visit and got
me a farmer sheep milk cheese. This cheese is wrapped in a bark of a fir tree. This is from Romania website Roman ancestors, the Dracians, lived in a small piece of
heaven. Their land with its huge mountains, covered by woods and grasslands was
the ideal place to raise sheep. But so much beauty and richness attracted roman emperors and
only mountains and the woods were a refuge in front of invading armies. Decebal, the king of the Dracians, retired along with his
people in the mountains, taking with them the sheep flocks. In the fir-tree
woods he taught them how to preserve cheese in fir-tree bark. and how to hide
it in caves. This habit passed along generations and was very much used
in Vlad Tepes time, known as DRACULA His cruelty and severity made many people
take refuge in the mountains around his castle in Bran, and of course cheese in
fir-tree bark baskets was the perfect food for them. This way of preserving
cheese by burying it is even used today. Cheese is made only of sheep milk and the basket is made of
fir-tree bark boiled in whey in a very specific manner. This cheese has all the flavor and freshness of the fir-tree woods. It's natural elements assure a longtime health and good shape. So i made a warm bread to go with the cheese . Yummy enjoy |

Ahron,
Our dear friends of many years, had relocated to the city of Bucarest for professional reasons; though Paula was born in Braschov, a mountain village not far from Dracula´s castle ...
I am quite familiar with this ewe variety cheese, and they also have a goat variety; which Paula´s Mother used to bring for us, when she visited every year ... IT IS PHENOMENAL !!!
I am a cheese-holic ... and prefer goat cheese and ewe cheeses to almost any other food on the planet ... except Galician Octopus and Galician / Basque fresh Lobster and Crevettes from Brittany or Gambónes, extra large Spanish prawns ...
So, it is my calcium as I am lactose intolerant to cow milk and can only employ as an ingredient where the dish is cooked ... Not to be taken as milk straight up ... or in coffee ... I only drink Italian Espresso ...
This cheese is heaven on earth; thanks for sharing the photos !
Margi.
Have nice wkend.

Ahron, 3rd language ... exemplary ... What are your first two languages ? Do you speak Rumanian and Dutch ?
It was a type error I am sure; as cruel ty ...
Thanks for correcting ...
Truly phenomenal cheese ... There is a large Rumanian community in Alcalá de Henares, 26 km via Bus from Madrid Capital ... I am able to pick up this goat or ewe cheese there ... It is not far from the Military Base where I work from 7.30am to 9.30am teaching Tefl English to Officers of NATO.
Unfortunately, the Rumanians have some fabulous red wines too; that are NOT promoted; and one of the most disasterous Governments in the EU ... It is truly a time for a change !!! The Rumanians that live in Spain, are climbing up the corporate ladder, and speak Spanish better than the Spaniards ... Very adaptable and efficient workers ... Yes, like in all cultures, one has the positive and the negative ( Mafias, Clans, Fanatics & Gypsies ) ... However, on a positive, Rumanian women who came to Spain years ago; cleaned Spanish people´s homes and cared for their children while they went to work; NOW, THEY ARE STUDYING, AND THEY SPEAK ENGLISH ALOT BETTER THAN SPANIARDS DO; AND THUS, ARE GETTING CORPORATE JOBS !!! THEY OBRAIN BETTER ENGLISH LEVELS ON THE TOEIC EXAMS WHICH ARE PART OF THE EMPLOYMENT PROCESS NOW AT CORPORATIONS ... THEY HAVE UPPER INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED LEVELS OF ENGLISH; VERSES INTERMEDIATE WHICH MOST SPANIARDS SEEM TO STAY AT FOREVER IT SEEMS !!! THEY ARE NOT THE BEST STUDENTS !!! NOW, THEY ARE THREATENED WITH JOB LOSS ( 25% UNEMPLOYMENT HERE ) SO THEY ARE POLISHING THEIR ENGLISH !!! THE ACADEMIES ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR LEGAL RESIDENTS TO TEACH ENGLISH ... DECENT MONEY CONSIDERING THE CRISIS !!! AWFUL HERE ....
Then, off to the Magazine Offices ( www.guidepost.es ) GOURMET CHOICES is my column since 1999.
Always a pleasure chatting with you and glad you are back online at FOTW ...
Kindest, and have lovely wkend;
Margi.

No worries, Ahron ~ your English is much better than my German, Romanian, Hebrew or Italian, so I would say you're doing pretty good!
Beautiful cheese with some very intersting background - with some bread and charcuterie this must be some very, very good stuff ~

Ahron,
Rumanian is a Latin Language, thus, it is much easier to learn Italian and Spanish or Portuguese ... The Rumanians that immigrate to Italia and Iberia, learn these 2 languages incredibly quickly.
Hebrew is a challenging language because of the character alphabet ...
Unfortunately, most Americans that are not Latin or Italian or Greek etcetra, are mono-lingual. Culturally, the way in which we learn languages as children, 2 hours a week in Public Schools is a sad story !!!
I speak English natively, Spanish & Italian fairly well; Portuguese ( intermediate ) and intermediate French; as I do not use too often; and travel - elementary German ... I have also acquired some tourism phrases, and all MENU and basic phrases for travelling in Greek and had lived in Greece three years. However, if one does NOT use daily; we forget --- though I am extraordianairely receptive to reading ( roots of languages, LATIN and GREEK ) LANGUAGES IN GENERAL; AS I TEACH TEFL = teach English foreign language to the Spanish Military Officers of Nato and the UN missions, here at their bases, 7.30am to 9.30am every morning Monday thru Friday ...
HAVE LOVELY WKEND.
GREAT...
Marge.
