We had a relatively warm day today...34° so I decided to make the smoked mixed nuts for Christmas.
Used my recipe that is posted in this forum, but I thought it would be nice to do a step-by-step.

I'm using five different types of nuts this year...Walnuts, Pecans, Cashews, Almonds and Brazil nuts.

Put my butter in a medium saucepan and melted it

Then got my spices and wet ingredients ready

Once the butter was melted, added the spices, hot sauce and worcestershire and whisked like crazy.

Poured the whole mess over the nuts and tossed them by hand until they were all nicely coated.

Then into the smoke for 90 minutes at about 250°...had to use the grill today, the GOSM was giving me fits...could not get it to light. Stirred them about every 15 minutes.

When they were done, brought them inside and spread them on a baking sheet to cool, then vacuum sealed them to be ready for next week.

Very beautiful pictures, Dave...definitely should be in a magazine. Really. You have done very well with this one. Lots of good looking nuts you have going on there too, very tasty~ you ever put peanuts in there? I know they are low-rent, but they are delicious! Also, I noticed you smoked them in a relatively-tall sided foil container, as compared to the cooling sheet. Do they get enough smoke all over that way? Have you ever smoked them on a sheet and compared? Just curious, since I've never made smoked nuts before.

When I read the Title, I thought the subject was going to be about those folks that go all out and shop till they drop starting on Black Friday and run over everyone in their path trying to get to the next sale LOL

I'll have to give this a try...I always make the Checs mix with nuts for christmas...this looks like it will work right along with the checs mix!

Hey, thanks Rivet. The reason they are being smoked in a high-sided pan is because I was unable to get my GOSM fired up, and wound up smoking them on the gas grill, with one side only lit to keep the heat down. If I had used a sheet pan it would have been so large that it would have intruded on the lit side of the grill, and I was afraid I might burn them. They came out smokey enough, but there was a noticeable difference from the GOSM. Good pickup on your part! Thumbs Up

As to the peanuts...I love em'...just prefer to maintain a slightly "snooty" attitude around the holidays and keep all the nuts high end.

LOL...you aure are right about those other "Christmas Nuts" Woody...what is it that happens to people to make them go temporarily insane like that every year?LOL

I'm sure you''ll enjoy the nuts ...if you check the original thread Montana Madness made some with chex mix and habanero sauce, and he said they came out real nice.

Good luck with it.

I'm thinking you might want to add some dragon dust to the butter when you make the sauce Andy...just thinking of that asbestos-coated pallet of yours Wink

Now that's a great suggestion!  When I get my smoker fixed I'm going to make a batch of these.
