I tried two new beers recently, the first is a cherry wheat beer, from Samuel Adams:

The second is a honey crisp apple wheat beer, from Shock Top:

Both were excellent and refreshing - perfect for a late-summer's day.

But ~ now I have a quandary. With hunting season coming up, I am looking forward to preparing some carbonade flamande using venison......but which of these wonderful beers should I use?

If I were using beef, it would be easy, as I believe that beef would go better with the cherry; however, with venison, I've had equally-delicious results with cherry or apple....

I think that the only way to settle this is to make one with each, and enjoy them both - time to stock up on onions! Hug

I'd use the Sam Adams. I think that the bit of cherry flavour would go better with the Carbonade Flamande.

Ahron and Darko, I am thinking the same thing. I'll try them both, but I think that the cherry might have the slight edge here.

The next time I make carbonade, I'll use the cherry wheat; after that, the apple, for comparison!

Ahron, this looks to be a great beer to try for carbonade, as well! I will see if I can get my hands on some, and will definitely try it. Just reading the description sounds amazing, and I would love to drink this on a summer day! The Cassis and the Apple also look like they could easily become favourites ~ Beer
