Good Evening,

MADRID CAPITAL EASTER FESTIVITIES

Although Easter does not officially begin until March 25th, 2013, the profoundly steeped rooted celebration can be enjoyed throughout Madrid beginning March 15th. The festivities commence with of series of 30 concerts entitled MUSIC AND SONG FOR THE PASSION, which shall be held at a variety of historical Churches throughout the city.

Amongst these is La Basilica de San Francisco, in neighborhood La Latina, where there will be a live performance of the famous Requiem by Verdí on March 16th at 21.00 hours.

There shall also be  35 family oriented performances and workshops at over 20 cultural centres aimed at introducing children to music and theatre.

SPANISH GASTRONOMY AFFILIATED WITH EASTER

SWEET PASSION is a tour focusing on gastronomy affiliated with Easter in Spanish and in English.
Madrid Capital´s favorite is Torrijas ( a bread pastry similar to French Toast, however, different as it is prepared with Extra virgin olive oil, not butter, and Red Wine.

This event shall take place on: March 23rd, 25th, 26th, 27th and the 30th.

The traditions of Holy Week or Easter Week, shall be highlighted throughout the city.

For more information:

PLAZA MAYOR MARCH 31st ...

As one of the grand finales, Sunday, at 12pm, is the Parade beginning 12pm, similar to the Macy´s Day Easter Parade in Manhattan ...

The Processions take place on Holy or Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, two legal bank holidays here in Iberia ... One is called Santa Macarena, the Holy Virgin of Macarena ( A Spanish Pop Song, very popular in Miami, was dedicated to this Saint in the 1990s ) ... and The Silent Procession on Good Friday.

Are there Parades or Processions in your village, town or city during Easter Week ?

Kind regards.
Margaux.

Ahron,

A bit on the theological side for my taste ... However, we are off all week, and are planning an epicurean escape ... Uncertain if we shall fly over to Puglia and spend a few days at the condo; or go to Northern Spain ( The Basque Country Coast ) ...

The loveliest Procession, we had ever seen in Iberia was in Jaén Capital, Jaén, Andalusia, one of the finest olive oil producing regions;  called The Grandfather ... It was presented by the children of this region ... Very lovely ...

I do not suggest Zaragoza, Aragón or the Castilla León provinces; very " pesada " ...

Pesada signifies: depressing or heavy ... and not pleasant ... religious or not religious.

Thank you for your feedback;
Margi.

Dan,

It can be amazing ... We are weighing our condo in Gargano, Puglia or a drive up to northern Iberia, the Basque Coast ... we love the sea --- so wherever we finally decide, shall be on the sea; either The Bay of Biscay or the Mediterranean or the Adriatic ... We are off for 1 week ... and really need some clean air !

An epicurean escape for the most part !!!

Thanks for your contribution;
Margi.
