I thought I would share a little of why I have been so inactive on the cookery front this past 12 months.
After decades of family rearing I accepted that the costume design business I had successfully run for twenty or so years was no longer where my heart lay. The profits were being eroded by cheap mass produced imports and the majority of my commercial clients were becoming increasingly younger and more demanding than I could humanly manage. I am a crafts-person. I enjoy my work and it takes time, that is where the value of genuinely good art/craft work lies, the process. I chose not to be rushed.
So at age 50 I took stock of my life and decided that despite what I knew I lacked qualifications.
So I sold the business I had built and went back to university to finish my Bachelors. (Applied Arts Visual)
I am now in my first year of Masters Studies - Museum Studies, Collection Management.
It is demanding and very rewarding intellectually.
...and it is all finally starting to pay off Clap
I have an eight week contract with Auckland Museum starting on the 28th. This is highly paid work and I am very happy.
What it means for the forum is that I may have to be a bit 'conceptual' in my posts rather than actual hands on foodery (is that a word?) until December.
I wont tempt fate by presuming, but I have be advised that there is a six month contract available from next February, and that I should prepare for it.
How good is that? Embarrassed
So because I believe in collective good will I am sharing a little of my news in the hope of gathering some good energy from my foodie friends. Handshake

Congratulations Anne! Clap

There are far too few people around who would have the courage to start over at that point in their lives. As a museum lover I have the utmost respect for what those associated with saving this planet's history do.

I could not be happier and yes, excited for you and the venture you are about to embark on.Thumbs Up

Please do your best to keep us updated occasionally.
Go ahead...play with your food!

I'm sending those good vibrations.....

Good on you, Kiddo. As someone associated with that industry I know how demanding, yet satisfying, it can be.

You go girl!
But we hae meat and we can eat
And sae the Lord be thanket

Outstanding, Anne ~

It's not often that people are actually able to follow their dreams, especially in such a field as this.

I'm wishing you all the best and success! Star
