hey, folks -

i've got a few good freinds here, and i have some bad news to share.

my mother found out today that she has skin cancer. i don't know much about it, but my understanding is that skin cancer can be one of the milder cancers, or it can be one of the worst kinds, depending on factors. it seems that this one is somewhere in between, but i don't know much at the moment.

in any case, i am not normally a person who gets all public about these things, but it is my mother, and i must say that C word is really something terrible to hear.

as the title says, thoughts or prayers would be appreciated.

If it's squamous cell, (Basal cell's generally minor, melanoma is nasty, and squamous is in between but generally closer to basal in severity) my dad recently had it too. If it's early enough, they can remove it, although she'll have to be really careful about sun exposure from now on. I hope she does well.

Sad news.

Maybe now would be a good time to reminisce with her about the foods she liked when she was a kid. Maybe now would be a good time to make those foods with/for her, and take her back to happier days...

People identify with food, and vice versa. Many memories might be made. You'll never regret having made the food or the memories, no matter what happens.

And if you were to write about it and take the photos and post it all here it may become one of those forever records the internet is known for.

many thanks to all for the well wishes and the thoughts.

melissa, yes, as it turns out that is the one it is, so hopefully things are on a good path.

rod - i was thinking the same thing, and had some plans in that direction. over the last couple of weeks, i had already been starting that process, even though i had no clue of the cancer. maybe because mother's day was happening at the time.

it's certainly a shocker, but we're all doing our ebst to keep the faith and move forward ~ and get this taken care of!

thanks again to all ~
