i like the paisano from carlo rossi a lot, do a lot of cooking and a decent amount of drinking with it. i guess that would be the one i would categorise as "great stuff." when drinking it, i've found that the key is to pour a glass and then let it "breathe" for a half hour or so. it takes on a very rich, warm quality then that i do indeed enjoy.

i've also used the burgundy for a lot of cooking, no complaints there, either. i've tried the sangria and also the rossi version of riesling, and both have been fine. keep in mind the price, this stuff isn't meant to be great wine that is to be compared to stuff that is 30 or 40 dollars a bottle - or more.... but it is fine considering the price, and certainly more than adequate for cooking.

Unfortunately, I haven't yet, Brook; I had a perfect chunk of venison set aside for this, but it "disappeared" one day while I was at work. I should put it together, though - I have plenty left in the freezer.

Thanks for reminding me about this one! Thumbs Up

I is cheap!
My sipping while cooking wine is Franzia chillable red, at $11 for 5 liters, ( $1.50 per a .75 liter bottle) it is a buy and to my taste, is about the right balance of flavor and sugar.
I have never understood why wine is not supposed to taste as though it is grape juice.
That price is even less than "$2 buck chuck"as that price is for .75 liter bottle.
I recently learned "$2 buck chuck" is now about $3 a bottle.
