Thanks Ron

Really good memories.
Morning flight to Toronto from Calgary in June 2012 to meet up with our Portuguese travel companions. 7 pm flight to Lisbon on Sata. Rent a Mercedes Vito van and drive to our villa in Praia das Macas. Villa not ready so we walk about 800m to a beachside restaurant to kill some time waiting for the house cleaners to finish. Have been up for about 30 hours and sit and order a nice cold Sagres Beer.
Minutes later the waiter drops a Fish Spread and some crackers and a big plate of Percebes.

We were all punch drunk from lack of sleep and started laughing at this pile of what looked like Toenails at the end of a Kevlar tube.

My friend tried to send it back and the waiter looked hurt, so I volunteered to try them. The waiter motioned for me to grasp the toenail end with one hand and the tube with the other and pull.

The women got up and stepped back from the table incredulous that I would put this in my mouth.

I looked back towards the restaurant kitchen and the chef and a few waiters were smiling and staring at me for my reaction.

I bit down and my mouth was filled with a very fresh beautiful briny flavor.

My wife actually tried a bite and found them too chewy. Our 4 Portuguese travelling companions refused to try them.

I ordered 2 more plates. I paid about 3 Euros each for a small plate

Thanks for the memories
