Tas. Edible fauna is very much cultural from one place to another.
Europe had seen an enormous amount of bloodshed, battles and wars, thus numerous people, would just about eat anything. I have French family, and 2 dear French friends, who have their stories to tell ...
In Iberia, horses and donkeys are Government protected species, and thus, un-edible, unlike in certain regions in France.
Dog is a delicacy in South Korea, and is very much frowned upon by Europeans, North Americans and Australians.
In Iberia, African meats are considered exotic and many are outlawed, such as elephant and zebra.
Antelope is available in very few top notch Iberian restaurants ...
Kangaroos for example, and other cute fuzzy fauna, always have created flack in The U.K.
Australian Ostrich is about one of the few animals which are fairly acceptable here in Iberia ...
The Iberians are fairly conservative when it comes to taste testing new cuisines, especially Asian cuisine.
Mexicans, Central and South Americans, particularly Brazilians, have an insect eating culture, which is a big turn off for most North Americans ...
It is a rarity in Iberia among the natives, however, upscale Mexican restaurants do serve chapulas, Mexican Spanish; called crickets in English.
Today, due to great amount of unemployment, there is a recycling of thrown away food products.
Interesting article. Thank you for posting it.
