i think you're right, woody - that probably would work against what the recipe is attempting.
i'm thinking what a person might be able to do is once they punch it down for the 2nd rising, maybe divide it and shape it into a couple of longer loaves. the trick would be to keep them of a size so that tehy fit in the dutch oven or similar baking device. another option would be to divide it into four or six rolls or "sub loaves" and simply bake them two at a time in the dutch oven or what have you....in fact, a long, covered cassrole might work perfectly.

I started another loaf of this today....
Wife and I get together with 2 other Couples on Saturday Evenings and play Canasta and all of us bring something to eat....
I asked the others if they wanted to try the Bread and they said Yes, so it is setting on the top of the fridge now rising...the others said to get some sort of dip and some kind of spreadable cheese to go along with it...
Anyone have any suggestions on what kind of dip to get and what kind of Spreadable cheese?

I've got a loaf of it working too Woody...mine is a sourdough. Same basic premise..getting together with friends tonight to eat the sausage we made last weekend. I'm going to try coating mine with butter when I remove the lid from the dutch oven, and sprinkling it with a little sea salt for that final 15 minute bake. I'll try to post a pic or two. |

It doesn't take long to make- here's the ingredients for a 9x9 casserole dish enough for your canasta group.
2 pkgs cream cheese, softened (use full fat. Low-fat, no-fat separates into an oily mess)
1 cup real mayonnaise (again, lo-fat stuff separates and makes an oily mess)
2 TBSP tabasco or other hot sauce
4 spring onions finely chopped
1/3 red bell pepper finely chopped
1 cup shredded mozzarella
1 cup shredded parmesan 3 cans quartered artichoke hearts (drained)
1 cup shredded asiago or Italian mix cheese
Mix all well in a large bowl. I wrote the above list in the order you mix it, from top to bottom. It makes it much easier that way.
Scoop the stuff into a casserole dish and bake in preheated oven 325, 350, 375 are all fine. It is ready when nice and brown around the edges and bubbly all over. You can also put it into the disposable foil meatloaf pans.

what I ment with the Dips and cheeses was something I can buy at the store...
Need something fast and easy, buy it...
If they like the bread then I'll make a Dip for the next time...but this time, I just need some dip and spreadable cheese that is bought in the store!
Any suggestions on something that is pretty much sold country wide and is Good??

Loaf number 3 is working, just mixed it up about an hour ago...
It was a hit last night at the card game! Everyone loved it...Wife asked me this morning to make another loaf since she brought all the dip and cheese spread home with her!
