Smithfield sausage co is recalling over 38,000 pounds of sausage distributed in quite a few states.
Apparently, ground up plastic inside the links. |

Hoser, This does not sound legit ... I believe it is a Strike & Protest message ... Imagine ? That is a tremendous amount of pork gone to waste ! I am sure the pig farmers are not pleased ... However, this sounds like a sabotage or strike / protest message ... Very risky to say least ...
Any further reports as to the reasons behind such a fiasco ?
Have lovely wkend,
Margi.

No news on it whatsoever Margi....somehow some gloves got in there. It is still being considered a low-risk event.

Which addresses the whole silliness of the plastic gloves requirement.
The idea is that sanitation is increased, on the part of food workers, if they have to wear plastic or rubber gloves. But somehow the point gets missed. Workers put on a pair and then wear them until they fall apart. They prep, say, chicken, then go on to something else (so much for preventing cross-contamination), go to the bathroom, wash their hands, etc. without removing the gloves.
There have been cases where this is so bad they've had to switch to blue nitrile gloves (talk about increasing food costs!) so that the shreds and pieces will show up more readily in food.
