One month past Mid winter.
Nearly full moon. This afternoon I divided and planted my strawberry plants. I now have two strawberry pots and a patch one meter square. 50 plants in total. After my pet blackbird feeds her offspring this spring...40 plants.

My wife and I both love strawberries - when we first moved to our current address six years ago, we planted some strawberry plants in a couple of likely-looking areas, and then promptly neglected them. The plants still come back every year, but don't produce well. I tell myself each eyar that we need to clear and weed the the patches (except for the strawberry plants themnselves, of course), but never quite get around to it because of other, "immediate" prioritoes.
Hopefully next year.....

we've tried strawberry plants a couple of years before giving up. The plants did fine, the strawberries did fine...but the little ground squirrels would take a single bite out of each fruit right before they ripened...never failed and no deterrents worked.

When I first got married 28 yrs ago I planted strawberries in the backyard, then a few years later, at the new house I planted strawberries along the one side yard. I never did get to eat any. Our dog would go into the patch and eat all the ripe ones LOL!

Yes agreed, the strawberry thieves are an issue. I have two cats - and both slept on the deck a meter away from the strawberry planter where mother blackbird had her two newly fledged chicks feeding from the two lowest plants... useless!
I also have possums that steal fruit at night, right now the .22 is by the back door ready to defend my blood oranges. I have mostly learned to build structures that keep pests off - its amazing what you can build with insulation tape and bamboo and netting.
