I'm just wondering if anyone has ordered anything from Anson Mills. I may give them a try coming up, but thought I'd ask opinions first.
Thanks, Dan |

Are you asking about their products or their service, Dan?
Productwise it's hard to beat them. Everything is stone-ground, and their line is pretty broad. They are credited, in fact, with re-introducing several grains. I can find most of what they make locally, so have no feel for how they handle things mail order.

Hi Brook,
I was talking, mainly, about their product. I was going to try the Carolina Gold rice and a couple various grits and cornmeal and the popcorn. The shipping wasn't cheap...I kind of wanted to make sure of their product before putting an order in. They sound like they do everything right...but you never know. They sell it down in Kentucky, Tennessee, etc? If they do...I'll have to keep that in mind. I'd love to get your opinion on their cornmeal, grits, rice, etc. Hearing their story...it actually reminded me of you, and what you've done with the heirloom tomato seeds! thanks! Dan |

Actually they sell it in the supermarkets. Every supermarket down here has a display of either Anson Mills or Bobs Red Mill products. In some cases they have both.
Yeah, Anson Mills has done a great job preserving various grains and, in some cases. reintroducing them to the public. A great company, doing a wonderful job, IMO. Shipping grains and grain products is pricey, no matter where it comes from. A friend in Georgia is always after me about bringing down Wiesenberger flours, because shipping just about doubles the pricetag. Oh, and just to keep the record straight, heirloom tomatoes are actually a sidelight for me. If I'm known for any particular veggie type it would be beans. But I actually try and preserve all southern Appalachian types. But I have friends who specialize in tomatoes, so it's all good. |

Thanks for the discussion, Brook! I think I'll just wait a bit and stop at a few stores next time I drive down South. Thanks!

I use Red Mill products all the time, and so far have been very pleased with them.
