Well folks, it's that time of year again...everybody outside, making potato salad, macaroni salad, deviled eggs and a variety of other dishes that include the wonderful boiled egg.
I'm quite sure we've all cursed the egg gods as we tried in vain to get the &%*&%^@# shells off some of those little devils. Well, here is Hoser's tried and true never-fail method for doing it easily.
Once you've boiled your eggs, place them in an ice-water bath for 10 minutes. If possible, peel immediately after that.
All you have to do folks, is turn the faucet on to slightly more than a trickle. Crack the egg all over, roll it under your palm on the counter, then put it under the running water as you start to peel from the big end. The water enters under the shell and lubricates the whole process. The shells will come off easily.

Excellent advice! Nothing worse than tearing up an egg into half its size in frustration of trying to peel a stubborn shell!

Excellent advice! I hate it when the shell sticks to the white and pulls it off the egg, it makes your deviled or pickled eggs look terrible. I will try this next time.

Dave,
I am making deviled eggs and some tuna salad and I just tried this with a bunch of eggs. It worked like a charm! I have never had such an easy time of peeling eggs. Thanks for the tip! |

Just used this tip a few nights ago while making scotch eggs. Again, easiest eggs I've ever peeled. Yee Haa!

I have my own flock of chickens and get about 20 eggs a day. I have had a hard time peeling them. Most of the white came off with the shell. I evan had to buy store eggs to make potato salid, or store mine in the fridg for a month or so to let them age.
after trying your method the shell came right off with only minor problems Thanks for the tip!

If you are doing several, once they are cooked and cooled, shake them in the cooking pan like popcorn. They will peel their self perfectly.

This is the same method I've been using for years with great results. However, you have to make sure the eggs are cool. I've tried it with warm eggs and it doesn't work nearly as well.
