Actually, I'm not cooking tonight, but the reason I'm excited enough to post is that we have a new Mexican restaurant open in the area. El Toro is now open in the city of Woonsocket. If there is one thing we are sorely lacking in new england, it is decent Mexican restaurants.
Tonight I will take the lovely Mrs. Hoser to El Toro, along with my camera, and provide what I hope will be an in-depth review of said establishment. I think the owners made a very wise choice. It used to be a nice bar and grill, but they had 6 pool tables. If my long career in emergency medicine taught me anything, it is that pool tables + beer = multiple skull fractures on a weekly basis. Hopefully the new owners are aware of this fact and have rid themselves of the tables so we will spend a pleasant evening sampling their extensive cuisine. Stay tuned for another post, and maybe a link. |

Well, we went to El Toro as promised and were very impressed overall. They did a great job remodeling and decorating the building, and the food was nothing less than outstanding!
The one minor complaint for me was that the chips were not quite as crispy as they should have been.....borderline stale. Once we got past that it was a great experience. As I said...we started off with chips and salsa...slightly stale chips, but the salsa was wonderful. Not hot enough for a true chili-head like Rivet, but I'd call it medium-mild. Good for most of the local pallets. ![]() They did a nice job on the lounge area (front of the building) the bar extends back into the next room, where we ate at the bar, and there is a large dining room to the rear of that. ![]() Another nice touch is the artwork by a local artist, who did murals on many of the interior walls...they really look great! ![]() Now to the entree's...Rita had the chicken fajitas which were out of this world, and I had a combination plate. First the fajitas: ![]() Then my combo plate...clockwise from 6 o'clock- refried beans, beef burrito, cheese enchilada, Mexican rice, and right in the middle of the plate is a chili relleno. It was all top-notch stuff. We were very pleased. ![]() And don't forget the staff...oops! I already have...the little blonde girl is Kendra, but I forgot the other's name. ![]() |
