If you want to try something new for Thanksgiving folks, give this a try.  It will become an instant classic on your holiday table. This is one we got years ago, and is included in my cookbook.

Butternut Squash and Apple Bake

From Connie Labreche....an instant classic that we serve every Thanksgiving.

1 butternut squash, peeled and cubed
2 granny smith apples, peeled and sliced
1 small can whole berry cranberry sauce
   1/2 cup brown sugar
   1/2 stick butter, melted
   1 tbsp flour
   1 tsp salt
   1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon
   1/2 tbsp ground nutmeg
   1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Heat oven to 350°F

Place squash in an ungreased baking dish.
Arrange apple slices on top and sprinkle with cranberry sauce and walnuts.
Combine remaining ingredients in small bowl and sprinkle over squash mixture.
Cover with foil and bake 50-60 minutes, until squash is tender.

Go ahead...play with your food!

i find that the older i get, the more i like squash, whether cooked simply with a little butter and brown sugar, or in a style similar to what you have above. squash is one of those thnigs that screams home, comfort, good, warm eating, and it's really hard to turn it down when it is putting out such nice smells.
