Ron had suggested that, given the fascination we all have with heirloom veggies, that I post my seed list here.
As I explained to him, I'm reluctant to do that, because it would, seems to me, open the door to all sorts of sales messages and spam. But he's right. There is interest on the part of many members to acquire and grow these old-time, full-of-flavor varieties. So, as a compromise, here's what I'll do. If you go to historicfoodways@hotmail.com, and request my seed list, I will email you both my current catalog (which includes all the historic varieties we grew at Fort Boonesborough), and a supplemental list of other heirloom seed I have available. The same pricing and shipping costs apply to the supplemental list. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. |

Got a question from a member and thought others might be interested.
All my seed was grown by me. Everything on my lists is an heirloom variety. I will not put a hybrid in the ground, as much for political reasons as horticultural ones. All the varieties I'm offering date at least the 19th century. Others go back even earlier than that. The Orinoco tobacco, for example, is the variety grown by John Rolfe at Jamestown, in 1610. I did not give the background and history of those on the supplemental list. If you're interested in any of those, and want to know more about it, just ask. |
