i was driving uptown during lunch hour to get something to eat and also run a couple of errands when i spotted a van in a parking lot that had a table set in front. a hand-lettered sign reading "fresh hucks" caught my eye and i dropped in.

a few minutes later i left, having blown my entire lunch and errand budget (10$) on the things. it didnt amount to much, just under a quart-sized ziplock bag-ful, but what the heck - on the side of the state we don't get treats like this too often; in fact, even though i had tried many huckleberry "products," i had never before had huckleberries in and of themselves!

so i tried a couple and was impressed with the tart/sweet taste and the juiciness - now i see why people ove them so much! over the weekend, i will probably try a recipe or two from the selection that i posted a while ago, and will report on results with pix!

Boy, oh boy...haven't had huckleberries since I was a kid and Gramps and I would go picking them in Michigan. We'd bring home a bucketful and Grandma would make the best pie you ever tasted. We used to pick asparagus growing wild too...the woods were full of it around our house. So much nice beach sand that it grew everywhere.

Thanks for triggering that memory RonThumbs Up
Go ahead...play with your food!
