to me, usage of the word "cant" implies that it is physically unable to do it.

Now you're on the right track, Ron.

Now I'm really stumped! I have no clue as to what piece of firefighting equipment could physically go the right way on a one way street, but not the wrong way.

Nobody said anything about going the right-way. Just that it can't go the wrong way.  Those are not the same things.

Late to the party, but 36 is right.

Take all of the amounts and roll them to either higher or lower number, because they're all the same fractions.

So 1 chicken lays 1 egg in 1 day X 6 = 6

Times 6 chickens = 36 eggs.

Which is why so many of us are mathematical illiterates.

Any normal person, living in the real world, would reason as you did, and come up with 36. But are mathematicians "normal" in that sense? Keep in mind that all maths are artificial constructs. Maths are not discovered, they are invented.

So, a mathematician or physicist would look at the problem differently than we do. He or she, looking at the problem, will deal in sets, because that's the commonality.  There are 4 sets of 1.5 in 6 days. So, therefore, the answer is---ta dah!--24.

For those of us mathematically challenged, however, 36 is the correct answer.

That said, when I started this whole to-do, I said there were three correct answers. Oddly enough, given that this is a food forum, nobody took-on the third one.

Is a puzzelment.
