Quote pears in red wine, I think that's originally a french recipe. I peel and halve the pears, then brown each side in a hot pan with plenty of butter. throw in a couple of bay leaves, two cloves and a cinnamon quill, some citrus zest if it's handy, sprinkle over some brown sugar, then slowly pour in some red wine (maybe a cup, or a bit more). reduce heat, simmer for 5 mins, turn the pears, simmer for another 5. depending on your fluid levels you may be good to go at this point, if there is plenty of fluid still place the pears onto the serving dishes and quickly blast the wine mix to reduce to a glaze. remove whole spices, pour the glaze over, serve with vanilla icecream. high impact and very easy. and tasty.
