Learning More About Mushrooms

I've been interested in learning more about mushrooms ever since Ann posted on her great experiences hunting them

Every now and then, Dan would also post about his experiences, with beautiful photos and enticing recipes. My interest was piqued, and i wanted to gain at least a working knowledge about these wonderful fungi....

Unfortunately, I never got around to it - partially due to work and family demands on my time, and partially because mushrooms have always seemed like a "rare" thing up there in north-central Montana.

But since then, I've noticed a few things; the first is that, when you are actually keeping your eyes open, there are more mushrooms around than you might have previously realised - most are pretty close to home, too. Another development is that my wife - who has always talked about her grandparents hunting mushrooms near where she grew up southeast of Great Falls, Montana - mentioned this again during a recent trip we took through the area - and even pointed out the very trail where her grandfather would go.

The final straw was when I finally had time to view and read Tomas's wonderful post about his recent mushroom gathering:

That was it! After a short discussion and renewed interest, my wife and I ordered this field guide today:
