I was recently tasked with making a Jerk Pork Sausage for the Jamaican born husband of my favorite niece.
When going through the ingredient list, it occurred to me that my Lebanese Beef Shawarma seasoning is eerily similar to Jerk Seasoning.
My pre-packaged Shawarma seasoning consists of Allspice, Pepper, Cinnamon, Ginger, Nutmeg and Cloves.
So I added some Scotch Bonnets and twisted some links.

He was praising the flavours until I told him that he was eating Shawarma Sausage, but made with Pork:)

Then he told me that I was crazy.

Hoping that Brook can shed some light on this similarity!!!

It sounds to me like a variation of "if it didn't come from Grandma's kitchen, it isn't authentic."

That's is just a guess, but it fits the syndrome. In this case, substitute "Jamaica" for "Grandma's kitchen.

I am not familiar with shawarma, and only slightly familiar with jerk seasoning; I do know that citrus and onion play a prominent part in jerk seasoning. In any case, there might be a few subtle differences between the shawarma seasoning and jerk seasoning, but if the profiles are essentially the same, then it's no biggie. Proof is in the fact that he loved it until you told him about it.
