At the Kroger yesterday.

5 lb bag of White Lily bread flour   $3
4 lb bag of Dixie Crystals sugar     $4.19
Small jar of Kroger peanut butter   $2
Dozen large eggs                        $1.70
One pound of Kroger butter           $4

All this stuff is nearly double what it was a year ago.

Never heard of white lily flour. Is it a premium brand? Around here a premium brand is just over $5 and the avergae brands $3.29...yep they can't keep the prices on the shelves for the upward movement.

Not a premium brand, I guess.  White Lily is from Memphis and made from soft winter wheat and is traditional here in Deep South especially for biscuits (not the bread flour though, I make bread from it).  I'll send you some for biscuits the next time I send a package your way.

Oh okay....I vaguely recalled the name but couldn't place the type of flour. Now I remember it. Its hard to believe that with all the wheat we grow bread flour is that high.

Pasta is starting to go through the roof as well. If I'm lucky I can catch a 10 for $10 sale and stock up.

Dave, if you have access to Sam's Club anywhere within driving distance you may want to check it out for pasta. They have boxes of "Pantry Packs" (different 1LB package numbers depending on the shape) of pasta's that are top quality and impressive. About 2 months ago Mrs Rivet went and picked up some penne and angel hair and they really impressed me with the quality- just as good as the premium Italian brands at the grocery store, and all made from semolina, too. No sense in paying full price for the same quality and taste, especially nowadays.

Something else that's scary....when the local-coffee company's locally-roasted, premium imported coffees (either pre-ground, or grind yourself at the counter) as well as the Starbucks' competitor's Regular Prices are cheaper than Folgers or Maxwell House plastic tubs, something is not right. This morning I bought a pound of African beans, French roast at about a dollar cheaper than regular Maxwell House blue-container, no-name coffee.

Confused

Maxwell House has been out of sight out here as well...it's $2.00 more than Folgers, so that's what I've been going with. The folgers half-caff.

We've been buying the big cans of Kroger house brand coffee.  I can't believe the price of the name brand coffees.

We are also eating a lot more poultry, can't afford beef unless we find a sale which isn't very often.
