I had to try this!  A few weeks ago I was watching Hawaii 5-0, and in the opening scene McGarrett brings some loco moco for breakfast. Basically white rice topped with a burger, topped with a fried egg and drizzled with gravy. Of course this piqued my interest so after doing a google search...

Of course, I had to try thisSmile So, next time I made burgers, I also made a batch of rice etc, etc, etc.

Man! this is tasty!

Here's a bit about it.  http://whatscookingamerica.net/History/LocoMocoHistory.htm - http://whatscookingamerica.net/History/LocoMocoHistory.htm

That certainly should keep you upright till lunch time! Maybe longer! Sounds good! A lot of bad press about how unhealthy Hawaiian home cooking is. In this case I don't think Loco Moco would be any worse than a sausage and egg breakfast with a biscuit and milk gravy. Neither one is going to help you lose weight, but I don't think one would kill you any faster than the other. Good find!

Time for me to quit. I read the subject line and could only think of the old song; as in: come on everybody do the locomotion.

Of course, after reading what goes into this dish, I figure you need a locomotive to haul you away. Confused

What!! It's healthy.... There's lean ground beef, there's rice, and there's egg white. All healthy stuffBig smile

I was thinking about this again the other day. Saturday evening we had steak for dinner and I was thinking about how to change it up. Then it hit me! I had some rice left from the night before. So I made some simple fried rice, laid it on the plate. Took the steak & sliced it up and laid it over the rice, then the gravy over that & a fried egg on top.

There you have it; a slightly upscale take on loco moco for dinner!

This dish is genius.  I'm glad you brought the thread back up as I had missed it.  I'll be making this this weekend. Yum!
