This recipe comes from a friend in Emden, 2 hours from Bremen and 3 1/2 hours from Hamburg. It is absolutely delicious and many thanks to Renata Watermann.

GERMAN CHOCOLATE CHIP CAKE

1 cup milk
1/2 pound butter
1 2/3 cups flour sifted twice
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 tsps. baking powder
4 eggs separated
1/2 bar Sweet German or Swiss style chocolate
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup chocolate chips

1) separate the eggs
2) beat the whites stiff and refrigerate
3) cream the butter and sugar together
4) add the eggs and the vanilla
5) alternate the flour, baking powder and the milk
6) combine thoroughly by beating
7) add the chocolate chips and the German or Swiss chocolate
8) blend in the egg whites
9) bake 50 minutes at 350 degrees farenheit in greased tube pan

I am planning to try this during the holidays in Zürich, as it has been many years since I have made this specific recipe.

Kindest regards.
Margi.
