I just got some basil-infused olive oil as a gift. I don't use much basil, although I love the smell. Any suggestions on what to do with it? Thanks!

    Hi Melissa!

I would just start using it as a topping olive oil, whenever you feel a need for a touch of basil.  Use on top of pasta, eggs, fish, etc...etc.

A few other areas to try it on are on top of popcorn (I love good olive oil on popcorn).  Another idea is to get a bowl of vanilla ice cream, drizzle some honey on top...then drizzle just a little bit of your basil olive oil.  You can also put some fresh basil in there too...and perhaps a small squeeze of lemon.

   take care!

Good Morning Melissa,

Basil flavored extra virgin olive oil is wonderful drizzled on mozzarella di bufala and tomato, a Caprese Salad with a drizzling of Modena Balsamic Vinegar.

Also is lovely drizzled on a salad of choice, a baked potato, a pizza or just for focaccia, as a dipping oil. Can also be fabulous for Pesto di Liguria, a pasta of choice with Pesto:  pinenuts, garlic, basil and extra virgin olive oil ... One can sub walnuts if pinenuts are unavailable.

PESTO DI LIGURIA ( Basil Pesto with Pinenuts, Evoo, fresh Basil, Reggiano Parmesano Cheese )

Another lovely dish I had posted is chicken breast stuffed with Pesto; thus, this olive oil would be marvelous ( see page 5 or 6 in the Italian Section ).

Happy Holidays Melissa,
Margaux.

Melissa,

One can drizzle some basil infused oil on a Pizza Margharita, frozen or homemade or take out variety to " DOCTOR " IT A BIT ...

PIZZA MARGHARITA WITH BASIL INFUSED EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL.

Happy Holidays Melissa,
Kind regards.
Margi.

Thanks for all the great ideas! I never would've thought to put it on ice cream.
I just tried some on a bread pizza/cheese toast type thing. Wow, that was nice!

Melissa,

Basil hails from Liguria, on Italia´s northwest coast, and Genovese basil is used as a drizzle on:
salads, tuna fish, pastas, focaccia, pizza, provoletta: a crustless pizza, and fish or shellfish. It can also work wonderfully on grilled or roast chicken as a rub, when roasting.

Enjoy and Happy Holidays;
Margi.
