There's so much of it - all over the world - that it would be impossible to write about it..... yet, if I recall correctly, similar works have been written (street food, which is essentially the same thing).

In any case, with county fairs springing up all across America, I figured it would be a good time to enumerate a few of our local favourites.....

Corn dogs (we call them pronto pups here, but only at the fair - any other time they are just corn dogs) are great ~ I also like the fresh lemonade as well. Tongue

A couple of other favourites are scones (not the Brittanian treat), which are simply oblong versions of http://foodsoftheworld.activeboards.net/native-american-frybread_topic2472.html" rel="nofollow - Indian fry bread that can be covered with honey, butter, sugar or cinnamon - or any combination thereof. A spin-off of this concept is the sconito, in which the fry bread dough is folded over a filling consisting of meat, beans and cheese before frying. Also, a perennial favourite that can't be skipped is the Viking, which is a large http://foodsoftheworld.activeboards.net/kttbullar-swedish-meatballs_topic80.html" rel="nofollow - Swedish meatball (perhaps 3 to 4 inches in diametre), that is either wrapped in a thing layer of fry bread dough OR dipped in some sort of bread batter (I haven't really figured out which, yet), and then deep-fried until both the meat and the bread are deliciously done - served on a stick, of course! Star

And finally, I cannot go through fair time without stopping at the American Legion booth and getting a hot, juicy hamburger (seasoned with only salt and pepper) topped with deep-brown caramelised onions and a slice of tang, melty American cheese - catsup, mustard and pickles optional. All that is needed is a slice of freshly-baked raisin pie topped with a scoop of vamilla ice cream, and you're in county-fair heaven! Hug

And what to drink? The above-menitoned lemonade, or perhaps a root beer float, of course! Beer

REGIONAL STREET FESTIVAL FOOD IN SPAIN:

1) Churros: fritters ( fried dough ) served dipped in chocolate

2) Fresh Pork Sausages: grilled assorted sausages

3) Ice Cold Spanish Beer, Mahou is the common beverage

4) Depending on where the Festival is, as Spain is very steeped in tradition and rituals, and most of these Street Festivals, are paying homage to a specific Saint; thus the traditional place; for example, in Valencia, Paella prepared over open fires is commonplace. HARVEST CELEBRATIONS, are the other type of Street festivals, held where the crops have been harvested; GRAPES for example, in the 75 Designation of Origins.

5) In the capital, Madrid where we live; locally grown Green Asaparragos sautéed in Evoo with sea salt is a common Spring time treat.

6) It is very common, in Galicia, to serve fresh seafood stews and in the Interiors, meat & bean stews.

The cakes and sweets are profoundly steeped in local products and traditions and vary greatly from 1 región to another.

7) COCAS: a Roman based rectangular Pizza without cheese; topped with harvested vegetables varying from región to región, in Cataluyna and the Balearic Islands for example.

TAPAS, of all varieties are the most popular, and the " traditional " fare offered, usually free to all and / or low cost, via each stand.

One can also find, PINCHOS MORUÑOS, A KEBAB Served on a Stick however, commonly prepared with Pork verses lamb or beef.
