I cant remember where I read this tip, but 3 months later I can see that it works.
When you pull your spring onions, cut them off about 40mm above the root. Use the top as you would normally and reserve the root.

Re-plant it so that the top is level with the soil surface.

Pretty soon it will start growing again.

I did not make myself clear, leave at least 1/2 the onion plants in the ground, they will multiply quickly.
If you cannot find the seed or plants, let me know and I shall fix you up.

If you're talking about the bulbing type, 'round heah they're called hill onions. They've always been popular because their the first green stuff to appear. There are several varieties, mostly differentiated by color.

There also are top-setting multipliers, aka Egyptian Walking Onions.

Nope, what I have are called evergreen bunching onions.
I have had egyptian onions, really do not like the flavor.
At this latitude, the evergreen bunching are green all year and stay tender and fresh tasting.
I can get seeds or plants if someone wants some,I have quite a few in a 25 gallon pot on the front walk and the seeds are usually available here.

Just checked Ebay, evergreen bunching onion seeds are available for .99c , shipping included, from an American source.
Plant some seeds in a 3-5 gal. pot and have fresh onions all year, at least at this latitude.
