I ordered this book today:

This book is recognized as one of the definitive sources on the foodways of the Germans from Russia, and I am looking forward to its arrival. I'll try to post more on it when it arrives, and will certainly post when I cook out of it.

My book arrived yesterday, and I'm looking forward to getting to know it better. Just thumbing through it, I think I'm in love with it already:

Quote We dedicate these humble efforts to the loving memories of our Great-Grandmothers, Grandmothers and Mothers who diligently and faithfully preserved our heritage.

I peeked at a few recipes, and they are written fairly well, with fairly easy instructions considering that many of them are "handed down." Some are German, some are Russian, and some are an American mix of those, representing all three origins. Many have been "Americanized" a bit, and some have been modernized, as well. All in all, I see a good, wide sampling.

One thing that struck me that there are often two, three or even 4 version of the same recipe; I like this, because it allows the reader to compare and then either use the recipe that looks "best" or to come up with an "amalgam" of different recipes to average the differences.

If anyone has an interest in the Foodways of the Germans from Russia, it looks like this should definitely be on the shelf.

You're probably right, Ron. I'll just wait awhile, though, and steal your copy.
