Slavyanka is in Transcarpathia at a health resort. She wanted me to come with but not my idea of a holiday.

She thought mushroom season was in the fall, but found these growing outside the house where she’s rented an apt. Boletus Edulis. Apparently they can be found in Canada but I can’t find a map of their range and I’ve never seen anything like this during my forays into the woods.

She’s going to bring me some dried ones home.

Bolteus Edulis is a common wild mushroom throughout the North of Spain, particulary in Irrati Forest, 50 km. from Pamplona, Navarra and also in Odessa, Aragon and the regions resting at the foothills of The Pyrenées, amongst alot of other protected forests, Asturias, Vizacaya, Galicia, Cantabria, Cazorla, Jaén and La Rioja, Soria, Zamora and Lérida and  Los Picos de Europa, León and Asturias ..

They are extraordinarily popular in the autumn.

I have to say that our Spanish Boletus Edulis have a different shaped " Cap " ..

1) Our caps are narrower, and Fuller, sort of an open  umbrella shape  and our stems are much taller and wider.

2) Our coloration is much darker in tones ranging from fawn beige to sepia Deep Brown.

Enjoy, as they are amazing !
