Once again we are coming to the end of Autumn and are very close to the Christmas Season.

Here In Spain, Thanksgiving is celebrated only by expatriates and those invited to expatriate celebrations or those visiting their children at universities or 2nd apartments or homes,  perhaps or those who are retired and travelling through Spain etcetra. 

What is on the Menu  ??  

Here´s hoping that those celebrating shall have a wonderful holiday season.   

A smoked turkey from our local smoke house, Jerry's.  I have spent years perfecting my roast turkeys with sourdough stuffing but Jerry's taste like a decadent cross between ham, turkey, and bacon which are surprisingly moist.  https://www.jerrysmeats.com/

Mashed potatoes

Gravy

Green bean casserole

Candied sweet potato casserole, a NC version with a hard pecan, brown sugar, & butter crust

Cranberry sauce

and various other vegetables, pies, rolls, flan, and fruit drinks. 

My lovely wife picked up a LOT of old silverware and serving dishes this past summer which she is dying to show off since we will probably only get to use them for three holidays each year. 

There will only be three of us since my mother-in-law is extremely antisocial and refuses to come if anyone else will be there with us.    Being Southerners they often insist that I make cornbread dressing instead of sourdough. 

"Geeks-giving" is usually Friday night.  This includes one of my sourdough stuffing turkeys and everyone's leftovers and traditionally something very non-Thanksgiving flavored like BBQ, pizza, or such.   This meal will have a dozen or more guests.  There will be bad movies and good board games.

By the end of the weekend the turkey soup, divan, gravy over biscuits, turkey pot pie, avocado sandwiches, etc.... will have started.   The leftover smoked turkey makes amazing pot pies.

Most of this silver came from an old veteran who was selling off more than 30+ cases of old silver plate for $1.00 per item.  He admits that he had OCD issues.

His ungrateful kids and grandkids told him that they did not want to inherit his !^$*@#$ and just wanted cash so he was selling it cheap to spite them.  Kind of sad but funny.  You should see his garage; it is like walking into a pirate's treasure chest there is so much silver. 

I have had to collect a lot of different silver polishes and even upgraded my eletroplating solutions to repair some. 

About the only silver that he did not have was tea pots.  He had lots of tea services but only carafe holders and no glassware left to fit them.  He said that he picked up his first silver and obsession when he was stationed in Egypt and the newest pieces seem to be from the 1970s. 

I am terrible about remembering to take pictures but will try.  I have mailed about a crate of champagne coolers, goblets, ice cream bowls to the family farm/wedding venue.  It just feels too fancy for us here especially since I polished it all. 

Thanksgiving will be our first excuse to break this all out. 

Highlight for me: His dad makes the best chicken & dumplings ever, and always brings a big pot. I'll take that over the turkey it's so good.

If we don't attend, we'll just have a quiet meal at home.  With just the too of us, a traditional T-giving is just too much trouble.  Likely I'll do something with game hens and a couple of sides.

We were invited to a Thanksgiving Day Lunch at a wonderful restaurant and shall go. The fact is, I am not too keen on turkey, however, the other options are roast duck or roast capon, which I am quite fond of. The stuffing, I am not sure exactly -- yet.  We shall receive an email of the carte.
