Hi, Brook - it's good to be back. :)

I got lucky here. It was on a local online yard sale and The Beautiful Mrs. Tas "tagged" me in order to bring it to my attention. Unfortunately, someone else saw it first and almost got it, until I clandestinely sent the seller a message offering to double the asking price.

Perfect condition - I don't know why or how I got it for such a price, but I'll take it!

Now - what to make in it?

Mike - I'm glad I got it. I've been wanting one for years!

(Edit: Martin! (bloody autocorrect!))

Brook - the lid and bottom are stamped "29." I thought that might mean 2.9 liters or quarts, but just now I was able to fill it just under the brim with 5.5 quarts of water, so in practical terms I am sure it is a 5-quart. Looking at it, one would think 3.5 quarts at the absolute most, but appearances are deceiving.

There is just a bit of discoloration on the sides and bottom, but the enamel underneath appears to be pristine. It's currently soaking with some OxyClean Free; maybe a weak bleach solution next, if the OxyClean doesn't work?

A great size, Ron.

When we were married we recieved a three-piece starter set that included a 4-quart Dutch oven.  For the two of us it was fine, but a little shy of capacity when the kids came along.  That one-more-quart would have made a big difference.

You know how that works: you can always make smaller amounts in a pot. But, for all of cast-iron's virtues, the stuff just won't expand.
