Ronp  (Ron Philipps) passed away.a little after noon today at the Intermountain Hospital in Salt Lake City Utah from the results of a stroke.

His wife Carol wanted everyone to know that his friends from the forum were one of the last things he had on his mind.

I talked to Ron Thursday evening and was supposed to call him Friday but forgot, now it is too late... When I talked with him he sounded weak but when I ask how he was he said Okay.

Ron was a great friend and his love in life was cooking and smoking meat. He was a mentor to many on the forums. His talents will be greatly missed.

Ron loved helping new smokers learn the skill, smoking meat was his passion, Ron will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

I remember last winter when a bunch of us secretly contacted the manufacturer of Yoshida's and got them to Name him Customer of the Year...

He said he got home and had a package that was sent FedEx to him from Mr Yoshida's and when he opened it it had a certificate and a Mr. Yoshida doll and then he got 3 cases of Yoshida's, one of each flavor. The letter said they were contacted by his friends on the SMF Forum, when he started asking around everyone said to ask me. It was so funny, he called me up and the first thing out of his mouth was "What The Heck Did You Do"?

It was so funny and he loved every minute of it. He was honored to be recognized by them for his promoting their product which he loved...

Out prayers go out to Carol and the rest of his family in this time of loss of their loved one.

Rest In Peace Ron...
Teach them about Yoshida's in Heaven...

That is a shock. I didn't know he was that ill. He was a fascinating guy and always good for a laugh and sure did love to barbecue and smoke meat. He will always be the Youshida's giy to me, and it was because of him I searched the stuff out and got some. Very good stuff. He will be missed.
