Atticus, I’ve never been to Vietnam.  My girlfriend was here in Canada (she came on the boat exodus around 1988 - a harrowing experience).

I’d love to visit Vietnam, all of Asia, actually.  Some day...

Hi Wannabebwana,

It was great when you came to Vietnam. Moreover you were dating here. I think you had a great time. The food you eat is delicious and traditional. I also enjoyed it. Will you come back to visit Vietnam again? If so, let me know. I will show you the delicious food and beautiful tourist places of Vietnam. Or you can also search for information on vnfooday.com website. They are developing information for foreigners visiting Vietnam.

Welcome Atticus.

I dated a Vietnamese woman for about a year.  It was my first introduction to Vietnamese food and it remains my dinner of choice when I dine out.  I especially prefer it over Thai food because Vietnamese usually uses fresh vegetables instead of cooking them into the meal.

Two of my favourites were Goi Ngo Sen (Lotus root salad) and Goi Cuon (fresh spring rolls), though we ate them with fish sauce instead of peanut sauce.

She also used to make the Cha Gio (fried spring rolls) very small and bite-sized. They were soooo good!  They were like potato chips. You could never eat just one!

Welcome to our little corner of the culinary world, Atticus. I hope you like it here, and that we'll be hearing from you on the various forums.

Vietnamese food and culinary matters have been seriously underrepresented, and you might be able to help fill that gap.

Don't hesitate to join in on existing threads, or start two or three of your own.

Welcome to our little corner of the culinary world, Tim.

You've come to the right place! A simple cruise through both current and older threads will show you numerous locations to explore global cuisines---both in person, and through the cooking of their foods.

Take a look, at just one example, at my Persiana thread.  It will provide several opportunities to explore MidEastern cookery in depth.

Or check out the Iberia forum, and take a look at the numerous locales Margi has explored in Spain and Portugal.l

Or....well, you get the idea, I'm sure.

Thank you both for checking out my corner of the internet, I refer to it as my portfolio since when cooking is your interest you don't always have much to show for it. So that is my way of having something to show people what I do.

The other part was I wanted to connect with other people researching and interested in food and culture to the extent I was, so this gold-mine of a forum is my new favorite place.
