I've been watching this and it's got me  wondering: is it even possible to buy mutton in the US?

You know that is a darn good question. I've been trying to find it for years and years with no luck- certainly none retail nor from food purveyors. I've pretty much given up on getting it save from running into a sheep farmer around here, but they all seem to raise goats instead (no worries, grilled "cabrito" is a favourite around here at the Hacienda Rivet). If you find a place that sells it let us know!

Lamb is easy..really fresh mutton seems to be dang near impossible to get. Here is one place I found..seems to be an American page of an Australian company.

Dave, that was a great link you sent- thanks! Never heard of the outfit, but maybe they sell retail. I'll try to contact them this week, but something tells me they are a wholsaler, but it doesn't hurt to try. It would be great to have a mutton leg and roast to perfection in the oven....haven't had that in decades!
